UPDATED Q2 2007: Quarterly HIV/AIDS Prevalence and Exposure Reports for Cleveland
Quarterly HIV/AIDS prevalence and exposure cumulative reports are now being posted on localhealth.info, moving from the Cleveland Department of Public Health web site.
(Updated December 20, 2007)
The Cleveland Department of Public Health generated reports of the number of chanracteristics of those residents living with HIV in Cleveland and the Greater Cleveland Area (within Cuyahoga County.) While CDPH is migrating to a new website format, ClevlelandHealth.info will become the central repository for HIV/AIDS surveillance reports.
This document has links to the four reports released each quarter detailing the prevalence (those living with HIV or AIDS) and the self-reported exposure history to HIV. CDPH Exposure Surviellance reports are unique in that they report the number of both those MSM males, men who have had sex with men, and bisexual men, those men that report both having had sex with males and females, where the actual exposure route was unknown or uncertain. Reporting bisexual males provides a measure of risky behavior that potentially exposes women to HIV.
Meanwhile, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) do not routinely report bisexual behavior as a risk factor for HIV in their surveillance reports.
Prevalence reports for Cleveland include the prevalence rate, or the number of persons living with HIV/AIDS per 100,000 population. According to current surveillance, 0.6% of the Cleveland population is living with HIV/AIDS. Prevalence rates are not calculated for the Greater Cleveland Area reports. CDPH states that more conclusive reports for the county are released by ODH and can be obtained by clicking here.
